Program Overview

The definitive wilderness course in medical training, leadership, and critical thinking for outdoor, low-resource, and remote professionals and leaders.

The Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder program is the ideal medical training for leaders in remote areas including outdoor educators, guides, military, professional search and rescue teams, researchers, and those involved in disaster relief. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical. It includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary.

Our April and May Courses are 5-Day Courses – 30 hours of pre-course independent work plus 45 hours in person

Our October Course is the NEW Hybrid Format – 30 hours e-learning plus 45 hours in person.

Food & Lodging

The MHO Base sits on 20 acres of mostly forest land just 15 mins south of Huntsville. Mary Lake is a short walk away and students are welcome to borrow canoes and SUP boards during the evenings. There is a nice fire pit for sitting and tell stories around, and plenty of forest for those looking for a little peace, and connection with nature.

Home cooked meals and tent camping are available on site.  Please bring your own camping gear.

If you would prefer not to ‘rough it’, there are motel rooms available about a 10 min walk away – our neighbours at the MBC offer 15% off of their rates outside of July & August.  You can check out the room options and rates here please call direct to book your room 705-789-0123.

If you choose to commute, you can bring your own lunch, or a hot lunch is available ($100)
