"May every drip of your paddle lead towards a rediscovery of yourself, of your canoeing companions, of the wonders of nature and of the unmatched physical and spiritual rapture made possible by the humble canoe - Pierre Elliot Trudeau"

French River Canoe

The French River runs from Lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay, 105kms in total with several options to put-in and take-out from the river. It is now designated a Provincial Park, having a combination of scenic wilderness plus the convenience of modern commercial accommodation. Interconnecting lakes and gorges, rapids and swifts provide a wide variety of water routes, scenery and recreational activities. In addition to its provincial park designation, the French River has the added distinction of being nationally recognized as a Canadian Heritage River.

Travel by canoe is a challenge and you can be sure to spend time going over your gear and route to ensure a successful journey.  You will learn to overcome obstacles and take advantage of each moment in one of Canada’s most popular canoeing destinations.

Care for the Enviornment

MHO is very careful about the environment (no soap in the river, toilet procedures, burnable food waste etc) and does its bit to ensure the route remains clean, even to the point of hauling out other campers' garbage. Clearly MHO is actively lobbying the Ontario government to invest in park maintenance and make other improvements. It seems to be paying off with the appearance of an MNR crew that was cleaning up camp sites and portages when we were there. Very impressive.
