Wilderness Canoe Trip Guide

Location: Huntsville, ON
Number of Positions: 8
Contract Dates: June 5th - September 15th, 2024 (with the possibility of extension and contact work on top of these dates)
Compensation: Starting at $165.75/day (payscale is based on field days/experience)

MHO Adventures is seeking 8 full time guides to join us for the upcoming paddling season. Must be willing and able to work long hours, independently, in a fast paced environment and maintain a flexible schedule. Schedule will be based on our bookings.

MHO Adventures has been a leader in Ontario’s guiding industry for over 30 years. We have guided trips throughout Ontario’s James Bay Watershed as well as Northern Quebec and the Arctic.

We work with various types of clients offering a wide range of expedition based experiential education programs and commercial guided expeditions. Ranging in length from 3 - 26 days in locations such as, but not limited to The Missinaibi River, French River, Temagami, Dumione and Noire Rivers, The Moose River and beyond.
Main responsibilities include:
- The wellbeing of clients / students and teacher / chaperones while on expedition
- Planning and packing of food and group gear
- Unpacking and trip cleanup,
- Working closely with clients to ensure the goals and objectives of the trip / program are being met in a safe and appropriate way
- Effectively utilizing group and risk management skills, maturity and role modeling in line with the MHO Adventures philosophy to create a safe and supportive environment
- Facilitating positive peer interactions among clients / students
- Managing in-field risk management decisions
- Completing any program-related administrative documents and tasks
- Food Service Support
- Driving Shuttles
- Other tasks as needed
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience guiding extended wilderness expeditions
- Enthusiastic, outgoing, and flexible
- Experience working with youth, preferably in a camp/expedition setting
- Willing and able to work as part of a team
- Great communication, time management, and organizational skills
- Identify with MHO Adventures’ mission statement and core values
Certifications
- Wilderness First Responder & CPR-C
- Whitewater Rescue Technician
- NLS or Bronze Cross (an asset)
- ORCKA or Paddle Canada certifications - CT and/or MW (an asset)
- Criminal Background Check
- G-Class or equivalent driver's licence
- Post-secondary education in one of the following fields: education, recreation, therapy (an asset)
