Program Overview
The Upper Dumoine Watershed Cleanup & Inventory Project is a collaborative, field-based stewardship initiative led by Friends of the Dumoine (FOD) in partnership with MHO Adventures, professional outfitters, and summer camps. Delivered through guided canoe expeditions, the program combines meaningful conservation work with hands-on guide training, peer networking, and shared standards for professional river travel. Participants journey through the Upper Dumoine conducting campsite and portage assessments, light rehabilitation and cleanup, all while building skills and learning from one another in the field.
Drawing on MHO Adventures’ long-standing expertise in guide training and expedition logistics, the project creates a rare opportunity for trip leaders from different organizations to work together, align best practices, and strengthen leadership for those who frequently use this watershed. Beyond stewardship outcomes, the program supports the transfer of historical, and cultural knowledge of the Dumoine River system, fostering a more connected community of leaders dedicated to protecting and responsibly traveling within this iconic river corridor.
This initiative includes a one day historic seminar at Grande Chute presented by legendary canoeist Wally Schaber which will grant participants with a Dumoine History Guide Certification, allowing them to confidently share their knowledge about the Dumoine River on future trips.
