Course Breakdown

CS1a – Tandem Canadian Style: Paddle in sync with a partner while mastering advanced tandem maneuvers. Prerequisite for ORCKA Canoe Tripping 3.

CS1b – Solo Canadian Style: Learn to handle a canoe independently with poise and efficiency.
Together, CS1a and CS1b make up Canadian Style 1 (CS1) — a comprehensive two-day course designed to enhance your paddling skills and confidence on the water.
Course Content
Safety Skills – Swimming and self-rescue, Retrieving a swamped canoe, Canoe-over-canoe rescue, Line toss rescue
Theory– Canoeing heritage and traditions, Canoe design and construction, Canoe dynamics, Canoeing first aid, Canoeing resources
On-Water Skills – Pivots and sideward displacement, Circles and straight-line travel (forward and reverse), Controlled stopping and landings, Triangular course in wind conditions, Slalom course, Portaging techniques
