Program Overview
MHO Adventures specializes in canoe instruction courses. This is a combo course and students can work towards level 1, 2 or 3. Please note that for CT3 students must have the below pre-requisites. Day one will be spent at our base in Huntsville in preparation for our 5 Day / 4 Night canoe trip on the French River.
LEVEL 1: INTRODUCTION
Introduction to canoe tripping for those that have little or no tripping experience
LEVEL 2: SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Providing the experienced canoe tripper with the opportunity to improve their canoe tripping skills, stressing organization, safety, leadership, risk and crisis management
Prerequisite: ORCKA Basic Canoeing, ORCKA Tripping Level 1 or comparable skills and experience
LEVEL 3: CANOE TRIP LEADER
The Canoe Tripping 3 course is designed for those looking to lead and/or guide wilderness canoe trips. This course focuses on planning and leading a multi-day wilderness expedition. The course involves a canoe trip, stressing organization, safety, leadership, risk and crisis management.
Prerequisites:
- ORCKA Canoe Tripping level 2 or equivalent certification or comparable skills and experience
- ORCKA Canadian Style Paddling Level 1a or equivalent certification or comparable skills
- At least 25 nights of wilderness canoe tripping experience totalling 500kms or more
- At least one trip of 5 days or more
- At least 6 canoe trips in which candidate was responsible for some of the organization and leadership
- At least 17 years of age

- ORCKA Canoe Tripping 1, 2 OR 3 Certification
- Paddle Canada Intro Moving Water Tandem Certification
- ORCKA Basic Canoeing 3 or 4 Certification

- Canoes, Paddles, PFD’s
- All Safety Equipment
- Camping Fees
- Shuttles
- Each participant will be required to plan, purchase, pack and prepare one meal for the entire group. All other food is included in the course fee.
Does Not Include:
- Transportation to and from Huntsville, ON
- Personal Gear
NOTE: Level 3 Participants are require to provide MHO Adventures with your Canoe Trip Log AND Prepare written assignments prior to the trip.
Food & Lodging
Each participant will be required to plan, purchase, pack and prepare one meal for the entire group. All other food is included in the course fee.
